Halloween pumkins for the bloggers challenge

Today's bloggers challenge is halloween. I have a big basket of clear bags filled with assorted candy for my trick or treaters tomorrow. I hope I have enough. We have a great neighborhood for trick or treat so we can get a lot of kids. You know the dilemna, you want enought candy for the kids (maybe not enough for the teens) but you really don't want too many leftovers - especially if you love the candy you give out! I have 50 bags, plus some extra smarties and airheads, so even if I get extra kids, I'll have something for them.

Anyway, here is my halloween card. I made it using the oval punch and pumpkin paper. I took the leaves from my rose stamp set and embellished the card with ribbon and a martha stewart punch. It's kind of simple but effective. Enjoy!

Cards for Soldiers

Okay, call me a sucker for an advertisement or the power of suggestion. Friday night I was watching Jay Leno and Michelle Obama was on the '10 at 10' segment. This is where they do a satellite feed of someone and ask them 10 questions. During her segment she mentioned that last week was national service week and she encouraged everyone to do something (volunteer - like) to help our nations military families. So I remembered one of my stamping buddies mentioning that she donates some of her home-made cards to the soldiers. She makes cards - leaves them blank - and they get sent to the military bases overseas where the soldiers can use them to send cards to their families back home.
So, of course, I decided that is how I could serve. So Sunday (while the Patriots were playing on TV in the background) I whipped up a bunch of cards using some scraps and images I had been leaving around. I was so happy to get 10 cards put together. I'll mail them this week so they will get to the distribution center before the next deadline (Nov 6th.) I had fun imagining soldier men and women choosing these cards for their wifes/husbands/kids/family. Here are a few of them.

Halloween

Well the last few days I've been regretting not getting any DSP for Halloween so today I was out and about and near a designer scrapbooking store and just had to go in. Sure enough, they had a huge variety of fall and halloween papers so of course, I stocked up. The best part is that they were all less than $1.00, so including the new ribbons I got, my total was still less than $5.00.
So, of course I had to come home and make several halloween cards with my new Twick or Tweet stamp and the new papers. Here are the best of my creations.

Enjoy......

A flower for every season - no layer card.

This weeks bloggers challenge was to do a 'no layer' card. Yes - this was a challenge! I actually made two cards. This is the second and the card I like better. I really wanted some texture so I decided to punch out the image separators (rather than just draw lines.)

Enjoy

Recipe: Stamps: A flower for every season; Happy birthday
Ink: Sahara Sand
Accessories: Various markers

Medallion - Here comes the bride

A woman I know is getting remarried on Saturday. She and I used to be close, but now our lives have gone in different directions. She is a sweetheart and I am so happy she is remarrying. I think her fiance is a great guy and they are sweet together.

So, I made this card for her and dropped it in the mail Wednesday.

I am really big lately on the very vanilla wedding cards. A few weeks ago I played with the clear embossing on very vanilla for a co-workers wedding card - but that was before I got my Medallion stamp. I knew I wanted to do the clear embossing with Medallion for a wedding card and this is my first attempt. The circle in the middle caused me some fuss. I kept finding it too 'symetrical' with the pearls around it, but finally like it with the scallop punch in the middle. This card has more of a whimsical feel (the here comes the bride stamp set brings that tone) but I may play some more with the together forever stamp set to see if I can come up with a more classic/traditional look using the same techniques.

So, here it is.....
Recipe:
Card Stock: Very Vanilla; Generic Beige Textured card stock
Stamps: Together forever; here comes the bride; medallion
Ink: Versamark
Technique: Clear Embossing
Accessories: Ivory Ribbon - barely noticeable on the sides; pearls

Stampavie Mouse in nutboat

I made this card for a general occasion. I used the Stamavie set 'mouse in nutboat' and colored in the image using the stampin up watercolor crayons in earth elements. The card and image are on basic watercolor paper. The mat is Baja Breeze and so is the ribbon. The saying at the bottom is 'hope your day is the sweetest ever.' This will make a great birthday card or thinking of you card. If I do this design again, I'd probably use a baby saying since this design is so sweet for a new baby!

Love - Bloggers Challenge

This card is for the 10/1/09 Bloggers challenge. The challenge was to make a love card.

I don't have a lot of use for lovey dovey cards but I do have a lot of need for general cards so I decided to use this stamp set and make a card with love in it (meet the blog challenge) but a more general love message that I could use for anyone.

This stamp set is very versatile. It has a nice mothers day message but the flowers and wheelbarrow are useful for any number of projects.

Recipe:

Card Stock: Watercolor paper, Dusty Durango
Ink: Dusty Durango, Old Olive
Accessories: Hardware vanilla, Durango ribbon, old olive ribbon, blender pens
Stamp Set: Blooming with love
